Quick answer Hair loss can happen because of genetics, nutritional deficiencies, stress, hormonal changes, scalp conditions or certain medicines. Some types can improve or reverse, while others need ongoing care. The right treatment starts with identifying the cause.
You may notice more hair on your pillow, in the shower or while brushing. Sometimes shedding starts suddenly. Other times your hair gradually becomes thinner. Before trying another shampoo, oil or supplement, understand why your hair is falling.
Dandruff does not usually cause permanent hair loss on its own. Persistent itching and scratching may contribute to temporary shedding. Redness, greasy flakes or irritation may indicate seborrheic dermatitis. Avoid harsh home remedies and get persistent symptoms assessed.
Low levels of certain nutrients can contribute to shedding, including vitamin D, vitamin B12 and, rarely, biotin. Iron and zinc are minerals that may also matter. Your dermatologist may recommend tests based on your symptoms. Do not take high-dose supplements without advice.
Yes, iron deficiency can contribute to excessive shedding. Your doctor may recommend a blood count and ferritin test when appropriate. Avoid starting iron supplements without medical advice because excess iron can be harmful.
Significant physical or emotional stress can trigger telogen effluvium. Shedding may appear two to three months after illness, surgery, rapid weight loss, childbirth or major stress. It often improves after the trigger resolves, although recovery can take months.
No reliable scientific evidence shows that masturbation causes hair loss or male pattern baldness. If your hairline is receding or your crown is thinning, seek an assessment of the actual cause.
Normal coffee consumption has not been established as a direct cause of hair loss. Caffeine shampoos are not a proven replacement for treatment of progressive thinning.
Smoking has been associated with hair loss in research, although association does not establish the cause of an individual case. Stopping smoking benefits overall health but cannot guarantee regrowth.
Some types improve when the underlying cause is addressed. Genetic hair loss generally needs ongoing management, while scarring conditions can permanently damage follicles. Early diagnosis matters.
Arrange an assessment for sudden shedding, widening part, receding hairline, bald patches, persistent itching, pain, scaling or worsening thinning. A painful inflamed scalp or sudden patchy loss warrants prompt attention.
Medical treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, options may include minoxidil or prescription medicines.
Deficiency management. Confirmed deficiencies may need targeted treatment.
Scalp treatment. Dandruff and inflammatory scalp conditions may need specific care.
PRP. This may be considered for selected patients, but results vary and evidence is still developing.
Hair transplant assessment. Some patients with established pattern loss may be candidates after specialist evaluation.
Not sure why your hair is falling? Arrange a consultation at Skinology Multan to discuss your symptoms and suitable next steps without assuming you need a procedure.

Low vitamin D has been associated with some forms of hair loss, but it is not always the cause. Your doctor can decide if testing is appropriate.
It depends on the cause and whether follicles remain healthy. Temporary shedding may recover; genetic and scarring loss need different care.
Washing does not normally cause hair loss. You may simply notice hairs that were already shedding.
Seek assessment for persistent shedding, a changing hairline or visible thinning. Earlier diagnosis may improve your options. For better approach visit Skinology Multan.
